Facility Planning & Building Studies

The following list of services is representative of our capabilities:

Building Analysis and Evaluation

Renovation is a large part of what we do in our industry, and the first step in renovation is knowing exactly what you have to work with.  We can analyze independent systems within a building, multiple systems and their interoperation, or the entire building as a whole.  We can then evaluate those systems and provide the owner with information about their energy efficiency, effectiveness, usable life, long term or short term costs, or any other useful benchmark.

Building Systems Coordination

Because our background is rooted in Architectural Engineering, we pay special attention to each building system as it relates to every other building system.  We concentrate on the physical coordination of ductwork, piping, conduit, cable tray, and the like with structural and architectural elements so that the space is used efficiently while maintaining the integrity of each system.  We also coordinate the operation of the building systems to avoid interfering with each other.

Facility Planning

Whether a project is new construction or renovation of an existing structure, having a proper plan for the facility is critical to selecting appropriate building systems.  We can assist owners and architects in the beginning stages of a design and offer strategies for facility planning that could improve a building's performance at little or no cost to the building's intended function.

Feasibility Studies

Because we operate in both the theoretical world of design and the real world of construction, we have a unique perspective on what is possible and what is practical.  We can not only analyze a building project's potential, but we can also apply current cost and construction data to determine if a project is cost effective in either the short term or the long term.  We also have a great deal of experience working with the various building codes, so we can help architects and owners determine the right way to do a project.

LEED® Certification

With an in-house LEED®-accredited professional, we can provide building system design services that comply with the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council.  We can also work with architects, owners, and contractors to develop an energy efficient and environmentally conscious whole-building solution.

Project Management

We have experience managing a project from the first stages of design all the way through to the end of construction, both as the Prime Professional and as a consultant to the Architect.  Our expertise in Architectural Engineering allows us to view a building as a complex arrangement of interrelated systems, not just a collection of parts.  We pride ourselves on our ability to coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with each other and with structural, architectural, civil, and other disciplines to give the project the best level of constructability.

Utility Studies

We can analyze the utility consumption of your facility and provide you with valuable information on how to reduce your operating costs.  We can also compile a customized utility audit for use in states that offer special tax exemptions for energy usage.
